Commonly used for patios, pool decks, sidewalks, and interior flooring, stamped concrete is a beautiful home addition that is easily achievable with the right materials.
This popular technique gained momentum in the 1970s. Since then, builders have seen stamped concrete as a new way to customize homes beyond the traditional colors and designs. As a stamped concrete supplier in the southwest, we can attest to the endless possibilities that this method offers to both builders and homeowners looking to spruce up their home.
The benefit of working with decorative concrete products is that it’s a relatively easy and fun way to explore artistic methods of design. While professional contractors are skilled in the technique and process, if you’re looking to explore the method yourself, there are several online resources to help guide you in the right direction. For example, one of the top brands we carry, Butterfield Color, has an entire YouTube channel dedicated to working with decorative concrete products.
As you’re embarking on a journey to create stunning floors, here’s a small glance into the process of designing stamped concrete:
Add a base color. The base color will be the primary color that you see in conjunction with the rest of the building. You’ll achieve this by adding a color hardener to the concrete. There are two ways you can do this — using cast-on color or with integral color.
Add an accent color. Using color release, a secondary color will be applied. The color release can be applied two ways and this will depend on the formula you choose, powered or liquid.
Create a stamping pattern. To create a pattern, you will imprint the concrete with a stamp. Many stamped concrete suppliers, including here at FN Decorative Concrete, offer styled stamps to make well-known designs.
If you’re not sure what supplies you’ll need, we can provide you with advice and suggestions. In addition to supplying color stains, hardeners, and overlays, we also have stamps that you can rent out to use with your stamped concrete project.
